Box Score Brooklyn, NY- On Sunday Oct. 21, 2012, the Women's Volleyball team of Medgar Evers College earned their first victory of the 2012 season and snapped a 46 match losing streak. They defeated the Washington Adventist University Shock 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23, and 15-11). This marks the 1st victory for Head Coach Charita Henry in her young coaching career.
The Shock now 2-10 Overall played well with the Cougars now 1-19 Overall. Both teams played the match with high energy and lots of communication on the court. The Cougars fought hard and came back to force a 5th and decisive set. This was the 2nd 5th set match this season, the other being a 3-2 loss to Pratt Institute back on Oct. 11, 2012. After the match, Head Coach Charita Henry stated "Hard work finally pays off".
In the win, Junior Outside Hitter
Janiece Hill tallied a season high 15 kills on 30 total attacks. Hill also earned 2 service aces and 10 digs. Senior Middle Hitter
Catheline Joseph netted 11 kills on 33 total attacks.Joseph added a service ace and 16 digs. Sophomore Setter
AnnMarie Bemberry accumulated 29 assists.
In the loss, Washington Adventist was led by Autumn Morris and Katrina Moore tallied 9 kills.
Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Tuesday Oct. 23, 2012 when they conclude their CUNYAC schedule with the Baruch College Bearcats. Game time will be 7pm.
