The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a home CUNYAC match against Brooklyn College at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Monday, February 18.
The Cougars (6-0, 1-0 CUNYAC) defeated Brooklyn College (2-5, 0-1) by a final score of three sets to one (25-10, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20). The team has now already eclipsed last season's win total of five. Along with 10-0 Fontbonne University (MO),
Medgar Evers is one of the last two undefeated teams in NCAA Division III.
MEC looked every bit an undefeated in team as they romped to a 25-10 set one victory which was actually less close than the score indicated, as the Cougars failed to close out the set when leading 24-7. MEC recorded a .348 hitting percentage in set one, while BC hit -.227.
Brooklyn appeared to tighten things up in set two, but again Medgar pulled out the set with an
Enmanuel Jaquez kill finishing it off. Brooklyn held the lead for much of set three and won the set with relative comfort, before MEC won a back-and-forth fourth set after a Bulldog service error.
St. Clair led all players with 23 kills on 35 attacks and added five digs and two blocks, while Jaquez contributed a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs.
Kareem Cyrus and
Romell Carter added 22 and 14 assists, respectively, while
Sebastiann Perez added 12 digs.
St. Clair
currently leads all of NCAA Division III with 4.9 kills per set, 0.25 ahead of second place Xhulio Myftari of CCNY.
The Cougars return to action with another home contest at the Cougars Cave on Thursday, February 21 as the team faces Purchase College at 7 pm.
