Golden Eagles cruise past Cougars in non-conference women's soccer action

The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team lost a non-conference match on Monday afternoon, falling to the Golden Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University by a score of 9-0. The match took place in Morristown, NJ. With the defeat, the Cougars fell to 0-4 on the 2022 campaign, while the Golden Eagles improved to 4-7-1 with the victory.

Saint Elizabeth University did most of its scoring in the opening 35 minutes, spraying seven goals into the net. Dayanna Vera netted the opening goal of the afternoon, tapping home a swift lead pass from Kayla Goncalves to put her team up 1-0 in the fifth minute. 73 seconds later, the Golden Eagles scored again when the opportunistic Alex Carmona capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity to give Saint Elizabeth University a 2-0 edge.

Goncalves would then register the next three goals for the home team, coming in the 12th, 15th, and 17th, minutes. Lauren Griesmeyer notched an assist on the first of those aforementioned tallies, and Laila Kendle would contribute a helper on the second of Goncalves' goals. Griesmeyer would then net her team's sixth goal of the afternoon at 17:11, and Idalma Aguilar rounded out the first half scoring with a goal at 23:11 (from Samy Valdez) to make it 7-0.

The Golden Eagles' two second stanza tallies came courtesy of Alex Carmona (40:45, from Goncalves, and 42:24, from Cecilia Smith).

The Cougars will return to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon, as Medgar Evers will host CCNY in a CUNYAC match at Kingsborough Community College. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
