Women's soccer finalizes 2024 campaign with loss to Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY

The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team wrapped-up its 2024 campaign on Friday afternoon, falling to the Sound of Five Towns College by a score of 13-0. The match took place in Dix Hills, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars finalized their campaign at 0-13, while Five Towns wrapped-up its season at 7-5-3.  

Five Towns' Chelsea Martinez got the scoring started just 60 seconds into the contest, tapping home Kelsey Gonzalez's pass to make it 1-0 Sound. Five minutes later, Melissa Dupont put away Triniti Hymes-Richardson's feed to increase the host's edge to a pair of goals (2-0). Hymes-Richardson scored a goal of her own at 12 minutes (from Anabel Ortega) to make it 3-0, and Gonzalez (from Chelsea Martinez) scored at 18:00 to give Five Towns a commanding 4-0 edge.

Over the ensuing 24 minutes, the Sound would score another four goals, courtesy of Chelsea Martinez (24:00, from Ortega), Sydney Festa (30:00, penalty kick), Wildin Hernandez (35:00, from Martinez), and Ortega (42:00, from Chelsea Martinez). Five Towns would take an 8-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Five Towns continued to add to its advantage, with goals from Chelsea Martinez (50:00, from Hernandez), Danica Robles (55:00, from Jainee Martinez), Melissa Dupont (60:00, from Gonzalez), Chelsea Martinez again (62:00, from Ortega), and Festa (68:00, from Ortega).

Jainee Martinez earned the victory in goal for the Sound, logging 70 shutout minutes while making three saves. Medgar's Seeta Tomby took the loss in goal, stopping three shots in the process. Reserve goalkeeper Liya Workennah made three saves, as well.
