Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball swept by Valley Forge University in final road match of 2025 campaign

The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team dropped its final road contest of the 2025 season, losing to the Patriots of Valley Forge University in straight sets Monday evening by scores of 6-25, 8-25, an 14-25. The match took place at the Pit in Phoenixville, PA. With the loss, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-17 on the season, while the Patriots improved to a record of 11-8.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Newcomers Jose Janvier, Malik Williams, and Taosif Elahi all registered a kill apiece. Janvier and Williams also contributed two digs apiece on the evening. Shabbir Ahmed's six digs tied for the match-high, and Kimahli Reid's two service aces led all Cougars.

Toby Harris paced the University of Valley Forge with match-highs of seven kills and service aces to go along with a pair of digs. Nathan Whisman was nearly perfect on the evening, registering five kills on six attempts (.833). He also contributed three service aces and three assists, as well. Charlie Hoover and Joel Cordero contributed nine and eight assists, respectively, and Clay Confer and Ethan Fagan added six service aces each.

Leading 10-4 in the opening set, the Patriots rattled off nine consecutive points to snatch a commanding 19-4 advantage. Harris was the primary contributor during that aforementioned run, as he served five consecutive aces during it, while also notching a kill. After Harris finally served the ball out to halt the run, the hosts secured six of the final seven points of the set to win it, taking a 1-0 edge in sets.

Valley Forge University led 4-1 in the early stages of the second set before scoring 11 straight to take a 15-1 advantage. Confer registered four service aces during that run, with Harris and Drew White contributing a kill apiece. The Cougars then rattled off three straight points courtesy of three attack errors by the Patriots, but the University of Valley Forge scored the next four to go up 19-4. Later in the set, with the home school ahead 24-8, a bad set by Kayshaun Higgs clinched the set two victory for the Patriots.

The Patriots held an 11-4 lead in the third set of the evening before Medgar Evers put together a 4-1 run, capped by a Janvier kill, to inch to within four (12-8).  The University of Valley Forge captured the next eight points, taking a 20-8 advantage (courtesy of four aces by Fagan, a kill apiece by Charlie Hoover and Joel Cordero, and two Cougars errors).

Later in the third, down 23-10, Medgar Evers scored three straight points, thanks to a service error by Cordero, an attack error by Zoe Lor, and a service ace by Reid. The non-conference foes then exchanged points, before Valley Forge slammed the door on the victory with a Ty Martin kill.

The Cougars will wrap up their 2025 season this Thursday evening, as Medgar Evers welcomes the Cardinals of York College to the Cougars Cave for a CUNYAC match. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
