Chetara Murphy has been the Director of Athletics and Intramurals at Medgar Evers College (MEC) since January 2019. She brings 15 years of experience in collegiate athletics administration in New York City to her new role.

As Director of Athletics and Intramurals of Medgar Evers College, Murphy oversees 13 intercollegiate varsity sports, two club sports, and an intramural sports program. Murphy works with like-minded coaches and staff to help enhance the College's commitment to academic and athletic excellence as well as recruitment and retention.

"I am truly honored and overjoyed to have this opportunity to lead Medgar Evers College Athletics," said Murphy. "I will continue to focus on the growth of the student-athletes in the classroom and on the field of play. I will work with the coaches to teach and mentor our students-athletes. We will continue to promote and protect health, safety, and diversity in athletics."

Prior to her current position, Murphy served as the Interim Director of Athletics and Intramurals and oversaw all aspects the Department's programs starting in January 2018. Before that appointment, she served as Assistant Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator/Director of Aquatics at MEC from 2014 to 2018. In that capacity, she oversaw the MEC aquatics facility and introduced it as a revenue-generating source. It is now the largest revenue generator on campus at over $200,000 annually. Additionally, she collaborated with the campus' Office of Information Technology to set up the Department's first-ever live streams, among other achievements.

"Ms. Murphy," as she is fondly known by MEC's student-athletes, previously worked at Long Island University for over 12 years, serving as an Adjunct Professor of Sports Science, Aquatics Supervisor, and Athletics Operations Manager from 2006 to 2017. There, she helped pioneer a number of innovative initiatives such as Adaptive Aquatics, Platinum Sneakers, and Mommy & Me. In addition, Murphy assisted in administrative duties for the aquatics center and developed course content among many other responsibilities.

Murphy is an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports, Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Murphy competed as student-athlete in high school and college as member of the swimming team and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the New York City College of Technology (City Tech).

Murphy is both a native and resident of Brooklyn, N.Y.
