COUGARS FALL SHORT TO HAWKS 55-53 IN OT

Box Score New York, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball team suffered a tough conference loss to Hunter College 55-53 in OT. The Hawks improved to 4-5 Overall and 1-2 CUNYAC while the Cougars dropped to 4-4 Overall and 2-1 CUNYAC.

The Cougars jumped out to a 11-0 lead. Hunter went on an 8-0 run to get back in the game. The game would be tied just once in the opening half (15-15), before the Cougars regained the lead and went into the half up by 1 (20-19).

The 2nd half was a dog fight. The half featured 4 ties (2 a piece). The Cougars led by 8pts before Hunter came back and tied the game. The Cougars made 2 less shots than the Hawks which may have cost them the game.

In the OT, Hunter led by 1pt on a free throw, before the Cougars led by 3pts. With 20 seconds left, Cougars Co-Captain Kayode Prime hit a free throw giving the Cougars the lead 53-52. Hunter need to score in order to the win the game. With 13 seconds left, Hunter tried for a layup but was denied by Cougars Winston Douglas. Hunter received the ball back and Freshman Taulant Ibraj nailed a 3pt. shot erupting the Hawks faithful, making the score 55-53. The Cougars Kayode Prime tried to make a layup that would force a 2nd OT, but was denied by the hoop when the ball rolled out of the cylinder. 

Medgar Evers College in the loss, was led by Senior Captain and Guard Jovan Deare. Deare scored a game high 20pts (10-12 FT-FTA), grabbed 8 rebounds, tallied an assist, and 2 steals. Senior Forward Winston Douglas recorded his 6th double double this season, scoring 10pts and grabbed 12 rebounds. Douglas tallied three assists, a block, and a steal.

Hunter College was led by Taulant Ibraj and Lester Anim both with 11pts.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday Dec. 11, 2012, when they take on boro and conference rival the Brooklyn College Bulldogs. Game time is 8pm at Medgar Evers College. Fans are encouraged to wear Black as the Cougars fans will attempt to create a Blackout at the Carroll Street Gymnasium.
