COUGARS FALL TO BROOKLYN 87-77

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Cougars fell to conference and boro rival Brooklyn College Bulldogs 87-77 on Wednesday February 1, 2012 at MEC. The loss dropped the Cougars to 14-9 Overall and 4-5 CUNYAC while the Bulldogs improved to 13-7 Overall and 6-3 CUNYAC.

The Cougars took an early lead 2-0 off a layup from Brian Johnson. After BC went on a 5-0 run, MEC would climb back and take the lead. MEC would lead by as much as 10pts and dominate for 6 minutes. BC and MEC would counter baskets before the Bulldogs took the lead with 5 miuntes to go and lead into the break.

In the 2nd half, BC led the first 6 minutes. MEC would cut the lead and then an emphatic dunk from Sophomore Kayode Prime tied the game at 47. BC would come out a timeout and regain the lead. Wade Korengy would nail a 3pt. shot after the timeout (one of 4 3's for him in the half) regaining the lead to BC and never looking back. 

The Cougars lost this game on three aspects. They committed 35 turnovers in the game, shot 16.6% from 3pt. range (1-6) and 52.9% from the free throw line (9-17). That can't happen and must be changed.

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Brian Johnson and Winston Douglas. They both scored 27pts. Johnson grabbed 12 rebounds, tallied 2 assists, and 2 steals. Douglas recorded his 17th double double of the season, at the moment still tied #1 in the nation. Douglas grabbed a season best 29 rebounds, tallied 2 assists, 4 blocks, and a steal. Freshman Malcom Ellis had a career night in points, scoring 17pts. Ellis grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.

Brooklyn was led by Amil John with 31pts, Tyshawn Russell and Wade Kornegy each with 18pts, and Steven Grant with 11pts.

MEC will be back in action on Friday February 3, 2012 when they travel to Jamaica, NY and take on the York College Cardinals. Game time is set for 8pm.
