Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Women's Volleyball team celebrated Senior Night/Dig Pink prior to their final home match against Hunter College. The 'Dig Pink' themed event raised money through a raffle and bake sale with proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Seniors Michell Cadet and Kiwelewa Mlimwengu were honored prior to the game. 

The Hawks defeated the Cougars 3-0 (5-25, 11-25, and 3-25). The win by Hunter College improves their record to 16-13 (7-0 CUNYAC) while the Cougars drop to 3-24 (0-7 CUNYAC).

The first set was dominated by the Hawks as they started on a 10-0 run before the Cougars got on the board. Medgar Evers College showed great effort as they tried to cut into the deficit by scoring five points in the set, but was eventually turned away as the lost the first set.

In the second set, the Cougars started out with a 1-0 lead before Hunter tied it up at 1 and then went on a 4-0 run. The Cougars slowly came back as they were down 9-4, but the Hawks went on a 9-0 run as they would go on to close out the second set.

As the third set started, the first 10 points were contested, but the visitors stretched their lead to 7-3. The Hawks continued their scoring efforts as they went on an 18-0 run to close out the set and ultimately won the match. 

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Senior Outside Hitter Kiwelewa Mlimwengu with six kills on 12 attacks and two digs. Sophomores Charlena Mackey and Kalifa Roberts also added a kill each and Junior setter AnnMarie Bemberry dished out six assists. 

In the win, Hunter was led by Julia Connolly, who had a match-high 12 kills and Kristine Ciurcina, who dished out a match-high 28 assists.

The Cougars will conclude their 2014 campaign when they travel to the Bronx to play Lehman College on Wednesday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m.
