Bronx, NY- The Women's Basketball team fell to the Lehman College Lightning 81-27 earlier today. The Lightning improve to 13-5 overall and 7-3 CUNYAC while the Cougars drop to 1-17 overall and 0-10 CUNYAC.
The Cougars led twice early. Sophomore Guard
Ashley Desir opened the game with a layup, then Sophomore Forward
Kiwelewa Mlimwengu scored on a layup, breaking a 2-2 tie. Lehman would then go on a 21-0 run, put the game out of the reach for the Cougars. The Cougars shot 18.2% from the field, 5.3% from 3pt. range, and 66.7% from the free throw line. In the loss, Medgar Evers College was led by Junior Guard
Nia Tompkins with seven points (2-18 FG-FGA, 1-14 3pt. FG-FGA, and 2-3 FT-FTA). Nia grabbed six rebounds and dished out an assist. Sophomore Forward
Kiwelewa Mlimwengu scored six points (3-7 FG-FGA) and grabbed a team high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Guard
Ashley Desir led the team in assists with four.
Lehman College 51.6% from the field, 47.8% from 3pt. range, and 40% from the free throw line. They were led by Jennifer Navarro with 24pts. Three other student-athletes scored in double-figures, including the following: Amani Lightbourne (19pts), Karrin Walker (16pts), and Yarmese Jones (12pts).
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, January. 28, 2015, when they play the Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears at SJC BK in Brooklyn. Game time will be 7:30 pm. Â Â Â Â Â
