Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y – The Medgar Evers women's soccer team were beaten on the offensive end in a 12-0 loss to Cedar Crest College Monday night at the Aviator Sports Complex.
Despite the barrage of goals,
Marlene Thompson (Linden, Guyana/Edward R. Murrow) made 13 saves of 21 shots on goal, including eight in the second half for the Cougars (0-5). Both
Sciancia Metelus (Petionville, Haiti/Edward R. Murrow) and
Charlyn Jordan (St. John's, Antigua/Clara Hall) each fired a shot toward the net in a losing effort.
The Falcons (3-1-2) got hat tricks and two assists from Jackalyn Beckett, while Courtney Long added three goals of her own in the victory. Both Kari Vanderslice and Kayla Daniels compiled two goals and an assist, while Ashley Heffelfinger scored a goal and dished an assist.
Cedar Crest did not waste any time getting on the board, with Beckett firing one past the keeper at 1:20. They would add two more goals before the ten-minute mark to go up 3-0. Medgar Evers allowed three more goals before intermission to drop to a 6-0 deficit.
In the second half, while the Falcons would add six more goals, Thompson made some spectacular saves in net as the Cougars continued to fight until the end of the game. They made an offensive push a few times as well, firing both of their two shots in the second frame to no avail.
Following this defeat, Medgar Evers will host the College of Staten Island Wednesday night at Aviator Sports Complex. Start time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
