Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's soccer fell behind early as they were defeated by borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 16-1, Monday night at the Aviator Sports Complex.
The Cougars (0-7) got their first goal of the season in a losing effort, as Sciancia Metelus (Petionville, Haiti/Edward R. Murrow) netted the goal unassistsed. In net, freshman Kenia Diaz (Queens, N.Y./Allentown Central) secured 11 saves for her second straight double-digit save total.
Cansu Usta tallied six goals and an assist for the Lady Bears (1-2), who earned their first win of the 2015 campaign. Four different players (Kristen Candelaria, Shannon Fahy, Christine Emigholz, Christina Caruso) each compiled two goals, while Pam Chernyakhovsky dished off a game-high four assist to go with a goal.
St. Joseph's jumped out of the game with three goals in the first five minutes, all of them coming off the foot of the sophomore Usta. She would total four of the eight St. Joseph's scores in the first. In the second half, Usta would continue her offensive attack with the first two scores to move ahead 10-0. Metelus would finally find the back of the net in 63:26 for the first goal in seven games for the Cougars, but would ultimately be too late as the Lady Bears would close out the victory.
Medgar Evers will play again this Wednesday evening against Lehman College in a CUNYAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Lehman College South Field in the Bronx.
