Cross Country Splits with St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) in Dual Meet

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers cross-country team split a dual meet with St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), with the men's squad earning a victory while the women's team lost Wednesday evening at Prospect Park.

The men's team took a 24-36 decision to earn the victory in the meet. Despite the Bears' Thomas Rushin finishing the 3.3-mile course first at 21:17, the Cougars would tally seven of the top-ten finishers.  William Joyette (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago/Paul Robeson) and Abdul Kamara (Lagos, Nigeria/Indian River) crossed at second place at 21:30 and third at 22:04, respectively. Jamell Dacon (Brooklyn, N.Y./A.S.J.A Boys College) closed out the top five with a 24:04 finish.

In the 31-24 women's loss, Keyanna Miller (Queens, N.Y./H.S. for Communication Leadership) was the Cougars' top finisher, grabbing the second spot at 18:18 on the 2.0-mile course. Rasheeda Rhymer (Jamaica, N.Y./Young Women's Leadership) came next four seconds later, with a 18:22 spot good for third place. Kristen Candelaria was the top finisher for the Lady Bears at 17:15.

Up next for the team is the York College (N.Y.) Invitational Sunday afternoon. The men start at 10:00 a.m., while the women's team runs for a 12:00 p.m. start.
