Women's Basketball Defeats John Jay for First CUNYAC Win, 68-51

Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's basketball earned their first conference win of the season with a 68-51 victory on the road against CUNYAC foe John Jay College Wednesday night at the Doghouse.

The Lady Cougars (1-13, 1-6 CUNYAC) were led by newcomer Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who posted her second double-double in two games played with the team. She poured in a team-high 22 points along with 10 rebounds and six assists in the victory. Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) secured her fifth double-double on the season, grabbing a team-best 14 boards along with 11 points.

Both Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) and Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored in double figures as well for Medgar Evers. Tompkins scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, while Foster chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Shaliyah Ruiz led the Bloodhounds (3-10, 1-6 CUNYAC) with 14 points and five rebounds in a losing effort. Terri Chu contributed 12 points, while Cassandra Taylor added 11 points as the team dropped their third straight game.

Medgar Evers clamped down on defense, holding John Jay to just 31.7% shooting throughout the game as they led nearly the entire game. They also controlled the glass, earning a 45-36 edge on the rebounding front. The turnovers were even at 23 apiece, but the Lady Cougars converted 28 points off those mishaps.

Up next for the team is a home matchup against CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island Friday night as part of a doubleheader. Tip time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Cougars Cave, followed by the men's game at 8.
