Cougars Gameday Preview: Men's Basketball vs. Hunter College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's basketball seeks their third win in four games and move up in the CUNYAC conference standings when they face Hunter College Tuesday night at the Cougars Cave.

The Cougars (5-7, 2-2 CUNYAC) are coming off a dramatic 97-95 overtime victory Sunday against Baruch College. Conference-leading scorer Matthew Lee (Bloomfield, N.J.) secured his eighth 30-point game of the season, pouring in 36 points along with 12 rebounds and four assists in the win. He now leads the CUNYAC and is second in NCAA Division-III with 29.9 points per game. Steve Shivers II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a strong presence off the bench, scoring 16 points and five rebounds.

They will face off with Hunter (1-11, 1-3 CUNYAC), who is coming off a non-conference loss to Manhattanville College, 84-75, on January 3rd. The day before, the Hawks turned back CUNYAC opponent John Jay, 77-64, for their first conference win of the season. They are led on the offensive end by Brian Kruger, who is scoring 14.9 points per game (11th in CUNYAC) and is tied for fourth with 26 three-pointers on the season.

This is a meeting between the top-ranked rebounding team in the conference (Medgar Evers: 46.9 boards per game) against the lowest-ranked rebounding squad (Hunter: 35.3 rpg). The Cougars will hope to uses their advantage on the glass to control the pace of the game.

In their meetings last season, the Hawks swept the season series with a 75-59 win at the Hunter Sportsplex on January 6th then defeated the Cougars at the Cougars Cave, 75-61, on February 3rd.

Tip time is set for 8:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's game against Hunter kicking it off at 6:00 p.m.
