Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's basketball team hung tough throughout the game, but a second-half scoring drought was their downfall in a 64-54 loss to CUNYAC opponent Hunter College Tuesday night at the Cougars Cave.
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Lady Cougars (0-12, 0-5 CUNYAC) with 22 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort. They also got the fourth double-double of the season from junior
Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.), who corralled a game-high 20 rebounds and added 14 points.Â
Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) scored 12 points, drilling four three-pointers in the loss.
For the Hawks (5-7, 2-3 CUNYAC), Jade Aponte led the team with 21 points along with four assists and four rebounds. Ashley Yu added 10 points, while Ayanna Hudson (13 rebounds) and Widly Couloute (10 boards) controlled the boards in the team's victory.
Both teams struggled on the shooting front, with Medgar Evers shooting 31.3% from the field while Hunter shot 31.1% throughout the game. The Lady Cougars also shot just 8-for-22 from the charity stripe. The Hawks did their part on the glass, earning a 58-48 edge on rebounds.
Up next for Medgar Evers is a road matchup against the City College of New York Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
