Lady Cougars Gameday Preview: Women's Basketball vs. CCNY

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Coming off two conference losses this week, the Medgar Evers women's basketball looks to buck the trend Friday night when they face CUNYAC foe the City College of New York as part of a doubleheader with the men's team at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.

The Lady Cougars (0-12, 0-5 CUNYAC) started the week with a loss to Baruch on Sunday afternoon, and then followed with a hard-fought battle in a losing effort against Hunter Tuesday night, 64-54. Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 14 points and 20 boards in the defeat.

Foster leads Medgar Evers with 16.9 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game, which rank sixth and fourth in the conference respectively. She also has six double-doubles on the campaign. Mullings is right behind her in rebounds with 11.7 boards (fifth in CUNYAC).

The team is facing a CCNY squad (6-6, 2-3 CUNYAC) looking to snap a three-game losing streak, including a 69-57 loss to conference opponent Staten Island on Tuesday night. Tiara Brown leads the Beavers on the offensive end with 16.5 points per game, ranking seventh in the conference just behind Foster.  Brown is also the player with the best field-goal percentage far and away in the CUNYAC, shooting 62.3% (86-for-138) in 13 games played. Erika Richards posts in the top-15 with 12.8 points per contest.

This will be a tough matchup for the Lady Cougars, as they take on a CCNY team that is the team with the second highest scoring average in the conference, scoring 68.0 points per game. Medgar Evers is in ninth with just 44.4 points per contest, and is facing a team that holds opponents to the second-lowest in the CUNYAC (59.2 ppg).

Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's matchup at 7:00 p.m. Follow tonight and all games on MECAthletics.com, MEC Athletics on Facebook and @MECCougars on Twitter!
