Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – Despite a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, the Medgar Evers women's basketball team fell short in a 62-52 loss to CUNYAC opponent City College of New York Friday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
For the Lady Cougars (0-13, 0-6 CUNYAC),
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the scoring with 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the losing effort. In her first game in a Medgar Evers uniform,
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) drilled three three-pointers for a total of nine points and eight boards, while
Ashley Desir (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied eight points.
Liz Durchhalter poured in four three-pointers as she totaled 15 points for the Beavers (7-6, 3-3 CUNYAC). They also got 14 points and nine rebounds from Tiara Brown, while Robin Daley grabbed a team-best 10 boards in the win.
CCNY jumped out to a big lead to start the first quarter with an 18-4 advantage, and would lead 33-16 at the intermission. The Beavers, who are the second-best defensive team in the conference, held the Lady Cougars to just 15.6% from the field in the half. In the second half, CCNY built their lead to as many as 31 points as they moved ahead 57-28 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Cougars mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Beavers 25-4 in the stanza including scoring the final 20 points of the game. Tompkins tallied all three of her triples in the run as the team shot a much-improved 42.9% in the second half but fell short.
Medgar Evers will next take on CUNYAC foe John Jay College on Wednesday night on the road as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
