Box Score Lady Cougars Defeat John Jay 60-51 for First Win of the Season

(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers women's basketball hosted the Bloodhounds of John Jay in a CUNYAC matchup on Wednesday night at the Cougars' Cave. The Lady Cougars got their first win of the season due to great play from the entire roster top to bottom. With that win, Medgar Evers improves to 1-13 (1-6 CUNYAC) while John Jay falls to 0-14 (0-7).

            In the first half, the Lady Cougars played like a team on mission to get their first win. They shared the ball, knocked down shots, and played aggressive defense. It was a great team effort. Medgar Evers shot 15-39 (39%) in the first half and went into halftime up by 10.

            In the second half, John Jay cut the lead all the way down to three but were unable to catch up. It was a balanced attack for the Lady Cougars on the night with four players scoring in double figures. Seniors
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Kimonia Mullings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) Â both scored 14 points. Mullings grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added three steals and two blocks while Dieudonne grabbed 10 rebounds making it her 11
th double-double of the year.Â

Shaliyah Ruiz who scored 20 points. The women's basketball team is back in action Friday, January 13
th when they host Lehman College at the Cougars' Cave in a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 6 p.m.
