Box Score Women's Basketball Falls 72-53 to Conference Rival Hunter
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers women's basketball hosted the Hawks of Hunter College in a CUNYAC matchup on Friday night at the Cougars' Cave. The Lady Cougars hung around after one quarter but Hunter would eventually pull away wining 72-53. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 1-19 (1-10 CUNYAC) while Hunter improves to 10-9 (6-5) on the year.
The Lady Cougars had only scored eight points in the first quarter but they were still within reach of Hunter trailing by just seven. The second quarter got away from them as Hunter outscored them by eight points pushing the halftime deficit to 15 points. As a team they shot 11-27 (41%) in the first half which wasn't bad but Hunter's hot shooting was too much to overcome.
The deficit was just too large for the Lady Cougars to mount a comeback as Hunter led by as many 25 at one point. Medgar Evers was led by their one-woman show of
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The senior guard scored a game-high 21 points while also notching her CUNYAC leading 14
th double-double of the season. She grabbed a game-high 13 boards while collecting two steals and going 9-11 from the free throw line. Senior forward
Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) added eight points and six boards despite being in foul trouble most of the game.
Hunter was led by
Jade Aponte who scored 15 points on the night. Women's basketball is back in action Tuesday, January 31
st when they visit conference rival Staten Island in a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 5:30 p.m.
