(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team traveled to rival Brooklyn College for a CUNYAC matchup on Wednesday night. Medgar Evers defeated the Bulldogs 74-73 at the buzzer with a three from junior guard Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y). With the win, Medgar Evers improves to 3-6 (2-2 CUNYAC) while Brooklyn falls to 3-10 (1-3) on the season.
 
            Medgar Evers shot the ball well going 10-26 (39%) in the first half but they trailed by seven on the scoreboard going into the locker room. Sophomore guard Joancarlo Bonilla (Woodside, N.Y.) led the way with 14 early points while going 6-6 from the line.
 
            With 2:33 left in the second half the Cougars trailed by four with the ball. After a few empty possesions and two free throws by junior forward Steve Shivers II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) the Cougars were down by two with the ball with just three seconds left. After a timeout, Swaby II got the pass from Shivers II and knocked down the three at the buzzer giving Medgar Evers the win.
 
            Bonilla led all scorers for Medgar Evers with 22 points while Swaby II added 19. Both knocked down four three pointers and grabbed four rebounds each.
 
            Brooklyn was led by Chris McIllhatton who had a game-high 28 points. Men's basketball is back in action Friday, January 6th when they host Staten Island for a CUNYAC matchup that will begin at 8 p.m.
