Box Score Women's Basketball Plays Best Game of the Season, Falls Short 65-59 to CCNY in Opening Round of Conference Tournament
(NEW YORK, N.Y.) - Medgar Evers women's basketball traveled to City College for the opening round of the CUNYAC tournament to face the 5
th seeded Beavers of City College (NY) on Thursday night. It was the best game of the season for the Lady Cougars who fought extremely hard but came up just a bit short falling 65-59. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 1-25 (1-14 CUNYAC) while CCNY improves to 12-14 (6-10) on the year.
It was even match in the first half as the Lady Cougars only trailed by two. They did not shoot the ball well going 20-57 (35%) while also going 0-16 from three but they were able to hang around by getting to the free throw line going 19-24 (79%) in the first half. They rebounded the ball well also, out-rebounding the Beavers 20-10 in the first half.
The Lady Cougars played a solid third quarter despite being down three entering the final quarter. CCNY was able to push the lead to seven early in the fourth but Medgar Evers did not quit. A layup by senior guard
Ny'asia Irby (Great Neck, N.Y.) cut the lead to three with a little over six minutes left. The Lady Cougars could not complete the comeback as they fell just short of pulling the upset to advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who had 19 points to go along with eight rebounds. Sophomore forward
Cyndi Whyte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 17 points off the bench while also grabbing seven boards. Sophomore guard
Janaisha Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was quick on defense as she grabbed a game-high six steals.
CCNY was led by
Erika Richards who scored a game-high 24 points. With this loss, women's basketball has been eliminated from the conference tournament and this concludes the 2016-17 women's basketball season.
