Box Score Women's Basketball Falls to Conference Rival John Jay 53-46 on the Road, Dieudonne Gets Another Double-Double
(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers women's basketball visited the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC matchup on Friday night. The Lady Cougars fell into a hole and could not climb out in time as they fell 53-46. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 1-21 (1-12 CUNYAC) while John Jay improves to 3-19 (2-11) on the year.
In the first quarter Medgar Evers started the night on a 4-0 run with two quick baskets but John Jay answered and ended the quarter on a 15-2 run. In the first half the Lady Cougars struggled to knock down shots going 9-36 (25%). Five different players scored but they trailed by 12 going into halftime.
John Jay played another solid defensive quarter holding the Lady Cougars to just six points for a second time this game. Down by 18 going into the fourth quarter Medgar Evers had to pick it up if they wanted to make a comeback. The Lady Cougars started the quarter with a 10-2 run to put them within striking distance down just 10 points but John Jay would hold on for the lead and win the game.
Medgar Evers was led by their senior duo of
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.). Dieudonne led the way with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists; her 16
th double-double of the year. Mullings also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
John Jay was led by
Dana Nicholson who scored 15 points off the bench. Head coach
Delroy Ennis was frustrated with the overall performance saying after the game, "We are what we are." The Lady Cougars look to bounce back when they return to action Tuesday, February 7
th when they visit conference rival Lehman in a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 5 p.m.
