Men's Volleyball Wins Season Opener In Three Straight Sets

The Medgar Evers Men's Volleyball opened up their 2018 season on the road against Saint Joseph's College on January 25th at 7:00pm. The Cougars won the match in three straight sets by a score of 25-9, 25-13 & 25-3.

Freshman Outside Hitter Enmanuel Jaquez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led the Cougars in kills with six in 11 attacks while also contributing with 5 digs. Sophomore Middle Blocker Jovan Scott (Queens, N.Y.) had a total of 5 kills in 6 attacks while also contributing 8 service aces. As a team, the Cougars recorded 25 kills compared to the Bears' 3 kills. Junior Setter Kareem Cyrus (Saint Georges, Grenada) led the Cougars in assist with 19. Sophomore Dwight Boone (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a tied game-high in digs with 5. As a team, the Cougars collected 14 digs. Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist Abdul Kamara (Sierra Leone / West Africa) had a game-high 9 service aces in the match. As a team, the Cougars collected 28 service aces. 

For the Bears, senior McNeilsen Saint-Jean finished with a kill, an ace, an assist, and three digs.

Medgar Evers (1-0, 0-0) will return to the court on Saturday, February 3rd  for the College of Saint Elizabeth Tri Match against John Jay College at 10:00am and Saint Elizabeth at 2:00pm in Morristown, NJ
