The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a road match against Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, on Tuesday, January 22.
The Cougars (1-0) defeated the Raptors (0-1) in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-15).
Medgar jumped out to a first-set lead and never trailed as they took a 1-0 lead. In the second set the Cougars bounced back from an 11-9 deficit, their largest deficit of the night, to win the second set.
In the third set MEC once again held an advantage throughout the entire set as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead and never looked back.
The Cougars posted a stellar hitting percentage of .384, compared to Bard's .072. In his collegiate debut,
Nius St. Clair led all players with 18 kills and nine digs.
Enmanuel Jaquez added 10 kills, eight digs and four aces, while
Kareem Cyrus and
Romell Carter contributed 15 assists apiece.
The Cougars will look to improve to 2-0 on the season in two days, when they take on the College of St. Elizabeth on the road at 7 pm on Thursday, January 24.
