The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a road match at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, on Thursday, January 24.
The Cougars (2-0) beat the Eagles (0-1) by a final score of 3 sets to zero (25-20, 25-15, 25-21).
In similar fashion to
their first match against Bard College, the Cougars led the entire first set on their way to a 1-0 advantage. The second set was much the same, as a
Cody Ramsey kill put Medgar up 9-3 in a second-set win in which they again never trailed.
The third set, where the black-and-gold closed out their opponent, was where the Cougars showed their mental toughness and resilience, fighting back from 7-4 behind to win a back-and forth set which featured seven ties.
Enmanuel Jaquez and
Nius St. Clair each posted a team-high 10 kills. Jaquez added 12 digs and four aces, while St. Clair contributed five digs and three aces.
Romell Carter added a team-leading 14 assists, while
Kareem Cyrus posted totals of eight digs and seven assists.
The Cougars return to action exactly one week from today on Thursday, January 31, when they face Brooklyn College on the road at 7:00 pm.
