Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Competes in Baltimore, D.C., Manhattan

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team continued their 2019 season with a pair of trips South as well as a CUNYAC tri-match in Manhattan.

On Saturday, September 30, the black-and-gold traveled to Baltimore, MD, to take on host school Notre Dame University of Maryland as well as University of Valley Forge. The first match of the day was against the host Gators, who are 17-2 on the season and won in three sets. Melisa Wright led the Cougars with three kills and six digs.

The team then took on UVF and this match was much more even. Wright and Sashamoni Burnett led MEC with five kills apiece, Burnett and Quiara Brye Bey contributed five and four aces, respectively, and Wright and Bey recorded 13 and 12 digs apiece, with Burnett adding nine. Wright also led the Cougars with two blocks, while Cristina Carnegie added a team-best nine assists.

On Wednesday, 10/9, the Cougars traveled to Washington D.C. to take on Trinity Washington University. Three Cougars recorded double-digit digs (Bey - 12, Britenie Marcelus - 11, Noshka Gonzalez-Sanchez - 10) and Wright contributed a season-high six service aces.

On October 12, the black-and-gold played a CUNYAC tri-match at Baruch College. In the first match of the day, the Cougars competed against Lehman College. Wright contributed a game-high eight kills, Gonzalez-Sanchez added 10 digs, Carnegie recorded 10 assists, and Diana Williams fired in two aces. 

Against the host Bearcats, who are 12-4 on the season and an undefeated 4-0 in CUNYAC play, Burnett recorded a match-high three blocks, and Bey a match-high six digs, but the Cougars fell short to their city counterparts.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, October 17, when the team takes on CCNY at 7 pm at the Cougars Cave.
