The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team competed this past week in two CUNY Athletic Conference contests against CCNY and John Jay College.
On Wednesday, October 2, the Cougars traveled to Randalls Island to take on the Beavers and fell 3-0, an unflattering scoreline which did not do justice to how even the match was. The black-and-gold recorded 13 shots and six on target compared to 20 and seven for CCNY. The Cougars also had a goal ruled out for offsides, and another goal ruled out for the ball not crossing the goal line.Â
CCNY scored early on and the referee awarded the Beavers a penalty kick in minute 56, which made the score 2-0.Â
Darrell Ambersley led Medgar with five shots while
Abdul Edwards recorded three.
Against John Jay, the team was damaged by a number of absences from the regular starting lineup. Still, the players fought hard against the well-oiled Bloodhound machine, with
James Hyacinthe recording 15 saves and the team recording eight shots, including five on target.
Abdul Edwards scored a late consolation goal with a beautiful volley off of a high
Glenn Achampon assist.
The Cougars return to action this Thursday, October 10, at 7:30 pm for a road game at Kean University.
