The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team concluded their 2019 season with a pair of matches against Hunter College and the City College of New York.
The Cougars hosted Hunter at the Cougars Cave on Tuesday, October 29. As it was Senior Night, seniors
Noshka Gonzalez-Sanchez,
Melisa Wright, and
Diana Williams were recognized in a ceremony before their game for their contributions to the program.
Wright (11) and Gonzalez-Sanchez (7) led the team in digs, while
Sashamoni Burnett posted a team-best three kills, but it was not enough to overcome the high-powered Hunter team.
On Thursday, October 31, Medgar traveled uptown to face the Beavers in what turned out to be a much more competitive match. After falling 25-15 in set one, the Cougars found themselves down 15-5 in the second set. Medgar then went on a 10-3 run and made the score 18-15. However, that was as close as the black-and-gold got, as they ultimately fell 25-20.
In the third set, the Cougars took a 9-8 lead before dropping the next 14 points in a tough stretch. Despite fighting back late, Medgar's season concluded in that set.
Wright led the way with six errorless kills in addition to an ace and a block, Burnett contributed three blocks,
Quiara Brye Bey posted a team-best 11 digs, and
Cristina Carnegie added a team-high seven assists.
This marks the conclusion of the 2019 Medgar Evers College women's volleyball season.
