The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a road match against St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Tuesday, February 12, in Brooklyn, NY.
The Cougars (5-0) defeated the Bears (0-8) by a final score of three sets to zero (25-14, 25-16, 25-21).
The first two sets were blowouts, as MEC amassed leads of 19-8 and 10-2 in the first and second sets, respectively, and these leads were never really in danger.
The Cougars had to claw back from a 9-6 deficit in the third set, and after back-to-back
Austin Romeo aces put Medgar Evers up 16-14, there was no looking back for the black-and-gold.
Nius St. Clair led all players with 13 kills, while
Enmanuel Jaquez added game-high totals of 12 digs and five aces. St. Clair contributed 11 digs while Jaquez tallied 12 kills and
Romell Carter added a game-high 34 assists.
St. Clair leads NCAA Division III with 4.69 kills per set so far during this young 2019 campaign, while MEC was sixth in the nation with a .308 hitting percentage entering tonight's contest.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, February 18 for their home opener against Brooklyn College, which is also the team's opening match in CUNYAC play.
