Cougars Fall in CUNYAC Quarterfinals to Brooklyn

Box Score The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNYAC playoff game against Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday, February 16.

The #5-seeded Cougars (9-17, 7-10 CUNYAC) fell to the #4 Bulldogs (15-11, 10-7) by a final score of 92-69. Brooklyn advances to face #1 seed Baruch on Wednesday.

Medgar led throughout the entire first half, holding a 43-34 advantage at intermission. The Cougars shot over 48% in the first half and Justin Sutton led all scorers with 13 points.

Their lead evaporated immediately as the second half began, with the Bulldogs opening the half on a 53-17 run as they took a 24-point lead behind a shooting spree by Broooklyn's Anthony McClean and a much-improved defense than in the first half. McClean finished with 41 points, including 33 in the second half, and made a CUNYAC-record 11 three pointers in this game.

Sutton led MEC with 20 points and added seven rebounds and four assists, while Darrell Spaulding added 12 points and hit three of four from deep in addition to grabbing six boards. Timothy Bush (10 pts/7 reb) and Sean Webb (10 pts/3 ast) joined them in double-digits. 

This concludes a season of improvement for the Cougars, whose nine wins were the second season in a row where MEC improved their record after a 7-18 record in 2017-18.
