The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a home CUNYAC contest against John Jay College at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Tuesday, February 5.
The Cougars (7-16, 5-9 CUNYAC) fell to the Bloodhounds (14-8, 8-5) by a final score of 73-57.
John Jay opened up a double-digit lead early in the game, holding a 23-12 advantage 11 minutes in. The Cougars clawed their way back and found themselves trailing by just three points at halftime.
Things were looking good for the Cougars in the second half, as they opened a 36-33 lead after a pair of jumpers from
Justin Sutton and
Joancarlo Bonilla. Unfortunately, it was at that exact moment that John Jay went on a 19-1 run. The black-and-gold would not pull within double-digits for the remainder of the game.
Sutton led MEC with 17 points and added six rebounds, while Bonilla and
Jafet Thomas were 12-and-6 an 10-and-8, respectively. The squad struggled mightily to hit the three-point shot, making only one of 19 attempts for a 5.3% clip.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, February 11, for a 7:30 pm road CUNYAC game against York College in Jamaica, NY.
