BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a home match against Sarah Lawrence College at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Thursday, March 28.
The Cougars (14-5) defeated the Gryphons (1-13) in straight sets (25-11, 25-16, 25-18), snapping a four-match losing streak.
Set one was a breeze for the Cougars, who posted a .474 hitting percentage compared to SLC's -.087 as they stormed out to a 17-5 advantage and never looked back.
The second set was a different story as the Cougars appeared to take their foot off the gas, quickly falling behind 4-0. They trailed until it was 12-7 SLC, at which point MEC scored nine consecutive points to make the score 16-12 Medgar. The black-and-gold used another 6-0 run to close out the set and make it a 2-0 match.
MEC looked read to finish off the match as they took an 8-4 lead, but the Gryphons never gave up and fought back to take a 12-11 lead. From there, the Cougars handled their business, allowing only six points the rest of the match, five of which were MEC errors of some sort.
Cody Ramsey led all players with eight kills, while
Nius St. Clair,
Jovan Scott and
Sebastiann Perez totaled five apiece. Ramsey also added a game-high six digs, Perez knocked in four aces, and
Kareem Cyrus dished out 18 assists for the Cougars, who hit a stellar .317 on the night.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, April 2, for a road contest against Cairn University at 7 pm, their penultimate regular season contest.
