WILLIMANTIC, CT - The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team opened their 2019 season on the road against Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, August 31.
Despite several outstanding saves from goalkeepers
Carl-Henry Obeissant and
James Hyacinthe, the Cougars (0-1) fell to the Warriors (1-0) by a final score of 6-0, matching the scoreline of Medgar's match against ECSU on September 1, 2018.
The early action held promise for the black-and-gold.
Hassane Niampa produced a shot on goal from a
Jordan Coke corner kick in the 7th minute, forcing an ECSU save. Obeissant saved a penalty kick in the 22nd, and then another one in the 30th minute.
After ECSU scored in minute 33, they quickly scored again just 22 seconds later, and the score was 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, despite a
Darrell Ambersley shot on goal and numerous saves from Hyacinthe, the Warriors put four more goals into the back of the net to cement the final scoreline.
Obeissant finished with nine saves and Hyacinthe with seven, each allowing three goals. Niampa and Ambersley led Medgar with one shot and one shot on goal apiece.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, September 4, for their home opener against Sarah Lawrence College at 4:30 pm. The match will take place at Kingsborough Community College
