Men's Soccer Falls to NJCU

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team played on the road against New Jersey City University on Saturday, September 14.

The Cougars (1-4) fell to the undefeated Gothic Knights (7-0-0) by a final score of 4-0.

Coming off a 3-0 win over St. Joseph's - Brooklyn on Wednesday, the Cougars knew they were going to get NJCU's best shot. The Gothic Knights delivered, recording 38 shots, including 18 on target, compared to MEC's 7 and 3.

Still, the Cougars held strong for the first 63 minutes of the match. In the 64th minute, NJCU finally broke the deadlock, scoring three more goals over the next 22 minutes to make the score 4-0.

Darrell Ambersley led the Cougars with four shots and two on target in his return from injury, while Sebastian Arias recorded Medgar's other three shots and one shot on target. Carl-Henry Obeissant recorded 14 saves - his .820 save percentage this season is second in the CUNYAC.

The Cougars have a break of over a week as they prepare for their next match, an away contest at the College of Staten Island on Wednesday, September 25, at 2 pm.
