BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team hosted CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) foes Lehman College at the Cougars Cave on Saturday, January 4.
The Cougars (3-9, 0-2 CUNYAC) fell to the Lightning (7-5, 2-1) by a final score of 95-85.
Lehman quickly established a 12-7 lead, which ballooned to a 31-13 lead midway through the first half, as the Cougars struggled to get stops on defense. Medgar fought back to make it an eight-point game after a
Mousa Sinera fast break layup, but by the end of the first half the Lightning lead was back up to 15 points. Lehman shot 18-29 (62.1%) in the first half, while the Cougars hit just 12 of their 36 field goals (33.3%).
The second half was more or less even at the beginning, but Lehman eventually opened up an 83-60 lead with six-and-a-half minutes left. Over the next five-and-a-half minutes, the Cougars went on a 24-5 run, helped by nine
Jafet Thomas points as well as seven from
Keison McIntosh. Down by four with under a minute left, the Cougars were unable to claw back any further, as Lehman made their free throws and took home the victory.
McIntosh finished with a team-best 25 points, hitting eight three pointers during the game. Thomas finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Sinera completed his sixth double-double in eight games this season, adding 11 points, 16 rebounds, and four steals.
The Cougars return to action TONIGHT for a road CUNYAC game at CCNY, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 7 pm.
