BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team played a home nonconference match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the Cougars Cave on Tuesday, February 11.
The Cougars (4-0) defeated the Dolphins (0-9) in straight sets (25-18. 25-19. 25-16). The Cougars have still not dropped a single set this season.
The first set was evenly-matched for the most part, with Medgar leading by a few points most of the way. However, Mt. St. Vincent took a 17-16 lead late in the set. The black-and-gold responded viciously, scoring nine of the next 10 points to emphatically claim a 25-18 set one victory.
The Cougars took an early 15-9 lead but slumped midway through the set allowing CMSVÂ five of the next six points. However, Medgar again showed their skills by closing the set on a 9-3 run, which included three kills and four aces.
The black-and-gold were eager to finish off their Skyline Conference opponents, and jumped out to a huge 24-11 lead, before eventually finishing off the game with an
Enmanuel Jaquez kill.
Jaquez led Medgar with 14 kills on an efficient .360 hitting percentage, adding six digs and three aces, while
Sebastiann Perez added 10 kills on .438 hitting percentage with seven digs.
Alex Bridgelall added 29 assists, five digs, three aces, and three kills, while
Bishmii Sanchez and
Austin Romeo totaled three and two blocks, respectively.
Jovan Scott also added five kills on .273 hitting percentage, as well as three aces and four digs. Collectively the team hit an efficient .222 and fired in 15 service aces while allowing only one.
The Cougars return to action tonight for their CUNYACÂ conference opener at Brooklyn College at 7 pm.
