BRONX, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played their first-round game in the CUNY Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Championship tournament at Lehman College on Saturday, February 22.
The Cougars (7-19) fell to the Lightning (16-10) by a final score of 97-65. This is the second consecutive season that the team has suffered a loss at this stage of the CUNYACÂ playoffs, although this year's team was completely rebuilt from last season's, with only four student-athletes recording minutes for Medgar in both contests.
The black-and-gold started out strong, taking an early 7-3 lead, with
Dimitri Weeks scoring all seven points on two jump shots and a three-pointer. However, the Cougars then committed a few turnovers and Lehman soon had a 16-9 lead. Although the Cougars went on a 6-0 run, the Lightning continued to build their lead and they led by 21 points at halftime.
In the second half, the Lighting continued to build upon their advantage and the Cougars couldn't make a come back on this day.
Mousa Sinera recorded a team-best 13 points, adding five rebounds and three steals, while Weeks (11 points 4 assists) and
Marcus Lewis (10 points) joined him in double-figures. Nagay Herrera, Jr., also had a nice game with eight points and eight rebounds.
This concludes the 2019-20 Medgar Evers College men's basketball season.
