Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer team wraps up 2022 campaign with tough loss to Brooklyn College

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team finalized its season on Saturday afternoon, falling to CUNYAC and borough foe Brooklyn College by a score of 2-1 in conference action. The match was played at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars wrapped up their season at 0-16 (0-7 CUNYAC). The Bulldogs improved to 2-11-2 (2-4-1 CUNYAC) with the triumph.

After both squads were unable to find paydirt in the first 45 minutes of action, scoring picked up in the second session. Medgar Evers scored its lone goal of the day at 55:37, when Daniel Hacket received a through pass and beat Bulldogs goaltender Jason Martinez to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge. 10:10 later, Brooklyn would net the equalizer when Alexander Mishiyev received a pass from Yael Tirado inside the box before slashing the ball home to make it 1-1.

Only 118 seconds after Mishiyev's goal, Brooklyn would take the lead for good when Jordi Hernandez would take advantage of a penalty kick, scoring on his golden opportunity to make it 2-1 Bulldogs, a tally that would essentially prove to be the final and winnning goal of the afternoon.

Brooklyn goaltender Jason Martinez got the victory in net, only needing to make three saves thanks to the Bulldogs' solid defense, which allowed just nine shots (four on-goal) all day. Medgar Evers goalkeeper Louis Caiola did an outstanding job, allowing just the two goals while stopping eight shots.

A young Cougars squad, Medgar Evers will hope to study and learn from the challenges of the 2022 campaign. The team is determined to rest, refocus, retool, with the aspirations of bouncing back in a big way during the 2023 season.
