Gothic Knights defeat Cougars in three sets in non-conference action

The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team suffered a non-conference defeat on Thursday evening, falling to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University by scores of 6-25, 9-25, and 7-25. The match was played at the John E. Moore Athletics & Fitness Center in Jersey City, NJ. With the loss, the Cougars are now 1-6 on the 2022 campaign, while NJCU improved to 4-2.

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, veteran Cristal Joseph led the way for the Cougars, registering a team-best four digs while adding a pair of kills. Raine Williams contributed two kills, and it was Quiara Brye Bey adding five digs and a pair of assists.

Leading the way for the Gothic Knights was Dayshia Espinosa, as she led all players with 11 kills, hitting .474 on the evening. Kiki Lugo and Brenda Gonzalez recorded seven kills apiece, and setter Sydney Lore piled up a match-high 23 assists, while also leading all players with eight service aces.

The Cougars will now have four days off before returning to the court on Tuesday evening, as Medgar Evers will travel to Baruch's ARC Arena for a CUNYAC clash with the Bearcats. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
