Women's Volleyball falls in straight sets to Eagles at St. Joseph's Hall

The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Golden Eagles of the Saint Elizabeth University by scores of 12-25, 14-25, 12-25. The match took place in Morristown, NJ, at St. Joseph's Hall. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 1-9 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 2-8.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, veteran Quiara Brye Bey posted team-highs of five kills and three service aces, to go along with three digs. Newcomer Britonya Lloyd added three kills, two assists, a block, and a dig. Cristina Carnegie contributed five digs and a pair of kills, and libero Britenie Marcelus collected a team-high six digs.

Saint Elizabeth University's offensive charge was led by outside hitters Taylor Liriano, Onye Bosco, and Herbina Exume. Liriano piled a match-high nine kills to go along with four digs and three service aces. Bosco contributed eight kills, a match-high nine digs, and four service aces, and Exume added seven kills. Setter Kristina Ashton racked-up a match-high 28 assists, and Gianna Rizzolo's nine digs were a match-best. Finally, it was Marcda Thermitus collecting five service aces.

The Eagles hit .284 on the evening (31 kills and 12 errors on 67 attempts), while Medgar Evers hit .058 (12 kills and nine errors on 52 attempts). Saint Elizabeth University also held a sizable edge in the service aces category, registering 24 to the Cougars' three.

Medgar Evers will look to get back in the win column on Thursday evening, as the Cougars will travel to the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY to take on Monroe College-Bronx. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
