Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer upended by Lightning Wednesday afternoon in CUNYAC contest

The Medgar Evers women's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match earlier today, falling to Lehman College by a score of 7-0. The match took place at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-3 on the 2023 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC). Lehman improved to 4-6-1 on the season, including a mark of 3-1 in conference competition.

The Lightning established dominance in the early stages of this one, slicing three goals into the net in the opening 19 minutes of action. Maria Martinez notched tallies in the first and ninth minutes of play, with Melanie Siranaula tacking on a goal in the 19th.

Lehman increased its edge in the 27th minute when standout Barbara Meda registered a pair of goals 44 seconds apart, as the visitors catapulted to a commanding 5-0 edge. Siranaula would later notch her second goal of the match inside the final minute of the first half, as Lehman held a 6-0 edge at break.

The final 45 minutes of play featured just one goal, courtesy of the Lightning's Esmeralda Santos Valencia, as she found the back of the net in the 55th minute to cap the scoring for the afternoon.

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, Venn Duvemeau, who was making her first career start in net, put forth a hearty effort despite taking the loss, as she made 12 saves, including a handful of incredible stops. Her counterpart, Lehman's Ramatoulaye "Rama" Diallo, needed just one save to register a shutout.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars will travel to Randall's Island's No. 10 field to play CUNYAC foe CCNY. Start-time for the conference battle is scheduled for 4:00pm.
