Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer's 2023 season ends with 6-0 loss to Lehman College

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team saw its 2023 season come to a close on Monday afternoon, as the Cougars were eliminated from CUNYAC playoff contention, losing to the Lightning of Lehman College by a score of 6-0. The match took place at the Lightning's South Field in the Bronx. With the loss, the Cougars wrapped up their season at 1-12-2 (0-7-1 CUNYAC), while Lehman clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC playoffs, improving to 7-5 (6-1 CUNYAC) with the victory.

Lehman College's Bright Takyi opened the scoring for the Lightning in the seventh minute off an assist from teammate Adam Kowalski. The hosts improved their lead to 2-0 when Ali Sogoba netted a goal in the 25th minute, and that edge boosted to 3-0 when Phillip Osei cashed in on a penalty kick in the 29th. The next 16 minutes of action didn't feature a goal, so the Lightning entered the locker room at halftime with a three goal advantage.

Ebenzer Otto continued the Lehman's offensive barrage two minutes into the second half off a pass from Butrious Baah. Later, in the 59th minute, Brandon Dennis joined the stat sheet when he registered an unassisted tally to make it 5-0 Lightning.  Johan Martinez Moran capped the scoring for the evening in 78th minute off an assist from midfielder Rahaman Abdulhaire

Lehman goalkeeper Daniel Morales made just two stops to earn the shutout. Medgar's Rene Sanchez made nine saves in taking the loss for the visitors.

Although the Cougars' season has come to a close, the team will await word on some possible CUNYAC postseason award accolades. Those are expected to be announced this week, so keep it posted to MECAthletics.com for all the latest news!
