Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer defeated by non-conference borough foe Pratt Institute Tuesday evening

The Medgar Evers women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match last night, falling to the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute by a score of 11-0. The match took place on the No. 10 field at Randall's Island. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-5, while the hosts improved their 2023 record to 6-6-1.

Pratt scored four goals inside the opening 11 minutes of action, with that string of tallies started by Amelie Stoddard at the 2:11 mark. Stoddard collected a pass from teammate Ava Hunwick before slipping the ball into the net. 87 seconds later, the Cannoneers struck again when Annabella Russell capitalized on Kat Thomsen's pass, depositing the shot into the net to make it 2-0. Hunwick scored Pratt's third goal at 9:10, before Stoddard notched her second of the match (from Anna Wilson) at 10:47 to give the hosts a 4-0 edge.

Just before the 16 minute mark (15:59), the Cannoneers found the back of the net again, as Emma Pratt redirected Kayla Galvan's pass into the net to make it 5-0. Stoddard scored Pratt's ensuing two goals at 20:18 (unassisted) and 29:32 (from Sophia Thorne) to make it 7-0. Sujitno (32:52, from Griselda Pena) and Sarah Houston (36:29, unassisted) capped the first half scoring barrage for the hosts, who took a 9-0 lead into the break.

The Cannoneers would light up the scoreboard twice in the second half, courtesy of Sujitno (68:48, from Pratt and Thomsen) and Thomsen (70:18, from Stoddard). That would finalize the scoring for the evening, and the match was made official 71:15 in, with Pratt registering an 11-0 win.

Pratt's Emma Gaspari earned the shutout in goal for her squad, while Medgar's Shantee Goggins made 11 saves despite taking the loss.

Medgar Evers is next scheduled to take on Yeshiva University on Sunday, November 5 on the No. 10 field at Randall's Island, but makeup matches with York College and Brooklyn College loom.
