Medgar Evers fell behind 3-2 in the early stages of the opening set, but a 10-2 run by the Cougars, capped by a pair of service aces by Lloyd, catapulted the hosts to a 12-5 advantage. The Cardinals ran off three consecutive points to inch to within four points at 12-8, but Medgar responded with a 5-1 run, highlighted by a kill apiece from Lloyd and Metra, to snatch a commanding 17-9 lead. Later, with the Cougars leading 18-11, Medgar scored the final seven points to claim the set, 25-11. Williams registered three service aces during that 7-0 spurt.

In the second, the Cougars used the momentum of dominating the first set to take a quick 7-1 edge in set number two. After the Cardinals notched consecutive points to close to within four at 7-3, the Cougars used a 9-0 run to put considerable distance between themselves and the visitors, going up 16-3. Chapman piled four aces during that spurt, with Lloyd adding two kills. Later, holding a 19-7 advantage, Medgar Evers scored the final six points to take the set, 25-7. Adacia Scotland, Lloyd, and Chapman recorded a kill apiece during that spurt, and a service ace by Williams put the set away.

Medgar Evers used four kills (two by Lloyd, and one apiece by Williams and Metra) and three service aces to take a commanding 7-1 edge to start the third. York then put together a mini 4-3 run to pull to within five at 10-5. Later, the Cougars held a modest 16-10 lead, before closing the set on a 9-4 run to win it, securing the sweep in the process.

The Cougars hit .180 on the evening, while the Cardinals hit in the negative (-.029). Medgar Evers notched 19 kills compared to 17 for the visitors, while also edging York in the assists category, 16-15.

Despite enduring a challenging season, Medgar Evers closed the book on 2023 with a number of positives, including capturing the final two matches at home, and seeing Adacia Scotland get honored by the CUNY Athletic Conference with the sportsmanship award. In addition, the team had no seniors, which means all players are eligible to return in 2024. With another year of experience under the student-athletes' belts, and potential recruits joining the mix, the team could be primed to make a run at the regional postseason when the new season begins in September.
