Mekhi Gray added 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 20 minutes of action, and Kjell de Graaf posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and snatching 11 rebounds while dishing three assists and swatting a pair of shots. Other Highlanders finishing in double figures were Tariq Francis (12 points) and Jeffrey Akintolu (11 points).

The Cougars scored the first bucket of the contest, courtesy of Jean-Pierre, but NJIT dominated the contest after that. The Highlanders went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a pair of triples by Hess. NJIT continued to push for the entirety of the opening session, eventually taking a commanding 72-27 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Highlanders went up by as many as 79 points, before eventually winning the game by 76 (127-51).

NJIT connected on 52.4 percent of their attempts from the floor (44-84), while the Cougars earned a conversion rate of 42.9 percent conversion rate (21-49 FG). The Highlanders dominated the glass, grabbing 59 rebounds while Medgar Evers snatched just 17. NJIT held a healthy 16-4 edge in the steals category, while also forcing 24 Cougars turnovers.

Medgar Evers will now have six days off before returning to action on Friday, as the Cougars will take on Castleton University on the first day of the 2023-2024 Dr. Carol V. Decosta/Go 4 the Goal Tournament. Start time at the Cougars Cave is scheduled for 6:00pm. The other tournament contest, which will feature SUNY Purchase and Mount Aloysius, will take place earlier in the day at 4:00pm.
