The Medgar Evers women's soccer team played its home opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals of York College by a score of 10-0. The CUNYAC clash took place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Field No. 3). With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-4 on the 2024 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC), while the Cardinals improved to a record of 2-7 (1-0 CUNYAC).

York College peppered seven goals into the net during the opening 45 minutes of action. Zaria Neptune got the scoring underway, finding the back of the net just nine seconds into the match. Stephanie Ramirez doubled the Cardinals' edge at the 2:47 mark, and Neptune scored an additional pair of goals in the 10th and 17th minutes off assists by Alisha Adams and Emelin Cajamarca, respectively, to push York's advantage to 4-0. Cajamarca then assisted on Brithney Bielma's goal in the 20th minute before finding the back of the net in the 27th minute to make it a 6-0 game.  Neptune added her fourth goal of the game at 40:04 to send York into the break with a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Cardinals' Rebecca McKenzie scored the opening goal of the second half at 47:46, slashing home a feed from Aisatou Diallo. Zainab Gedel scored the visitors' ninth goal in the 54th minute, before Kresanta Jones cashed in on a penalty kick to finalize the scoring in the 57th minute.

York's tremendous defense was tested for the first time at the 58:49 mark when Danajah Lawrence's shot sailed wide for the Cougars' first attempt of the afternoon.  Medgar Evers were unable to break through after hitting the crossbar in the 64th and 67th minutes, as York held on for a 70-minute, 10-0 win.

After registering 21 shots in the first half, York recorded seven more in the final 25 minutes of action, finishing the day with a 28-4 edge. The Cardinals also held the edge in shots on goal (15-0) and corner kicks. Michelle Mancuso earned the victory in net for York, and the Cougars' Seeta Tomby stopped five shots in defeat.
