Cougars defeated by Privateers in non-conference affair at Reinhart Field

The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime by a score of 13-0. The contest took place at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-5 on the 2024 campaign, while SUNY Maritime improved to 6-6-1.

Maritime had an 11-0 halftime advantage after outshooting the Cougars 44-1 in the first half. Ava Morrill kicked off the scoring for the Privateers with a goal in the sixth minute, and Kiera Ford increased that advantage to 2-0 in the 12th before Morrill found the back of the net once again in the 19th. Thirty seconds later, Sara Williams' tally pushed Maritime's lead to 4-0.

Following Madeline Powers' goal in the 21st minute, Annaliese Etienne registered a goal to make it 6-0 in favor of the Privateers. Morrill completed a hat trick in the 28th minute, pushing her team's edge to 7-0. The next three Privateer goals came from Ford (27:51) Hannah Honor (34:24), and Lana Luckette (37:58), and Honor scored once again 11 seconds before halftime for the hosts.

Maritime added two more goals in the second half, as Stephanie DeMan wrapped-up the scoring on the evening, slashing home a cross from the left side.

Crown finalized her evening with three assists, while Eva Garcia, Alexa Heise, and Jamie Kibler all had one apiece. Devon Etienne started in goal for the Privateers and logged 23 minutes of action before backup netminder Marina Bjazevic came into the match.

Medgar Evers goalkeeper Seeta Tomby made 12 saves on the evening despite the loss.

The Cougars will have an opportunity for a fast bounce-back performance on Wednesday afternoon, as Medgar Evers will travel to the No. 70 field at Randall's Island to battle the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC match. Start-time is scheduled for 3:45pm.
