Women's soccer team defeated by Five Towns College in non-conference play

The Medgar Evers women's soccer team played a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Sound of Five Towns College in non-conference action by a score of 9-0. The match took place in Dix Hills, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-3 on the 2024 campaign, while the Sound improved to 4-4-2.

Five Towns College netted six goals in the opening half. Chelsea Martinez got the scoring underway in the first minute, tapping home a pass from Triniti Hymes-Richardson to make it 1-0 Sound. Chelsea Martinez then earned the assist on Five Towns' next three goals, serving helpers to Hymes-Richardson (12th minute), Jainee Martinez (13th minute), and Kelsey Gonzalez (15th minute). The Sound's final two goals of the half came courtesy of Jainee Martinez (19th minute, from Hymes-Richardson) and Wildrin Hernandez (22nd minute, from Anabel Ortega.

The Sound added three more tallies in the second stanza, getting contributions from Danica Robles (49th minute, from Gonzalez), Syndey Festa (53rd minute, from Hymes-Richardson), and Melissa Dupont (65th minute, from Ortega).

Medgar Evers newcomer Danajah Lawrence registered three shots on the day, including a pair on-target. Goaltender Andecia Liverpool took the loss between the pipes, however, she did register 13 saves. Five Towns College netminders Diamond Pertillar (15 minutes played) and Jainee Martinez (55 minutes logged) combined for the 70-minute shutout, making one save apiece.

The Cougars will return to action on Saturday, October 12, as Medgar Evers will host the York College Cardinals in a CUNYAC match. The contest will take place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Field 3), with a start-time of 2:00pm.
