Women's soccer drops CUNYAC clash to CCNY Beavers on Saturday afternoon

Box Score The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match yesterday afternoon, falling to the Beavers of the City College of New York by a score of 13-0. The match took place at the York College Athletic Complex in Jamaica, Queens. With the defeat the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-9 on the 2024 campaign, and finalized their CUNYAC portion of the schedule at 0-5. CCNY improved to 3-10-2 (2-2-1 CUNYAC) with the win.

The Beavers scored 12 goals in the opening half, including four by standout MacKenzie Moreno. Moreno accounted for CCNY's first two goals, netting tallies at 2:38 (from Valentina Diaz) and 3:35 (unassisted). CCNY went up 3-0 when Husna Khan slashed home Sofia Rondon's pass at 5:30, and Moreno scored again (off a pass from Samantha Pinto) to push the hosts' edge to four goals.

Valentina Diaz's goal at 13:23 (from Moreno) made it 5-0 Beavers, and Moreno scored yet again at 15:49 to increase CCNY's advantage to six. The Beavers' final six goals of the session came courtesy of Leylanie Martinez (18:22), a pair by Elsy Djatshenko (21:12, from Layla Abreu, and 22:53, unassisted), Valentina Diaz (24:17), Valeria Diaz (25:33, from Valentina Diaz), and Emma Raicovi (40:17, unassisted).

Rondon accounted for the only goal of the second half, netting an unassisted tally at 76:08.

CCNY goalkeeper Laila Issa picked up the victory in net, logging 48:12 and not allowing a goal while making one save. Reserve keeper Stella Bolduc played the final 41:48, as she didn't yield a goal or face a shot. Medgar Evers netminder Andecia Liverpool took the loss in net, though she did make five saves.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as the Cougars will make the short trip to Brooklyn College to battle the Bulldogs. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 4:00pm.
